Question Ladies and gentlemen of the jury of the DEALMESUM kangaroo court, what say you?

Here's a hand from this past week's DEALMESUM Feb League series game 1 that caused some rankor between a couple of the participants [HERO and VILLAIN in this case]. Let's take this step by step and street by street and see what people think. . .

Here's the pre-flop action to HERO in the BB and s/he has to decide on an action. What say you and why? What's factoring into your decision?

There is no discernable history between HERO and VILLAIN as one of them is new to our games. VILLAIN has not been overly aggressive nor out of line; like to open raise to 3xBB - 1, possibly because s/he thinks the bigger stack the software displays will scare others behind off. HERO has been known to get a bit adventurous in the blinds. . .

Hero is likely to be behind here, but with Q,3 clubs Hero is likely to, at worst, be in a race... probably 40/60... or not much worse. Such a raise as 3BB -1 doesn't show much strength. There is already 134 chips in the pot.. so with 59 chips to make the call Hero is getting better than 2 to 1 to call... so not a stretch by any means. If your Hero and don't mind playing from behind, it's reasonable to make the call to see a cheap flop. Hero can always get away from the hand if he/she doesn't hit.

When I get frustrated and go call this hand, the other player has a pair higher than both my cards. If I fold, the villian was probably fishing with K2.

I would fold. My thinking is I have a 25 percent chance of getting a flush. Then, I say, what are my chances of a straight. Well, the two cards are forever apart, queen and 3, so don't expect a straight to bail me out. Then I ask myself if a queen hits, is my other card a nice kicker. This is not a hand I go in on unless I already won someone's starting chips.

Not that I think like any good card player, or that it is correct thinking, but that is the thinking that rifles thru my mind.

These are not necessarily invalid points. . .

I would fold, of course, but a lot of people would call.

    Hope I didn't guess wrong :-)

Not necessarily about being right or wrong. About examining the thought processes in certain situations and knowing why you're doing things. . .

It's certainly a hand a good post-flop player might call with. Either catch something, get a good read on the opponent, outplay him after the flop, etc.

Crap hand, out of position: an obvious fold.

Late chiming in here but here first thought was to call as a flush draw is highly possible.. villain being 1st to act is playing ABC poker by raising, so hero's call would be justify in my second thought after taking a better look at the game I see it a $0/$15/$30 so assuming it real cash and not play money this is a instant fold for what good really is a Q3????
Other then being sooted, your out kicked from the start.. so unless you just love being a dog or have cash to burn get out now or you'll be committed once the cards flop it's harder to bail out especially if you connect with lol
