It was a very long and very crazy first week of the MLB season. So what did we learn? Here's what I learned:
1. Never bet against the Miami Marlins and or the Houston Astros when the teams they are playing are mediocre and not in the top tier of elite teams. Houston and Miami are very well improved teams. It may not look at it if your just looking at lineups and or names on paper but both teams pitching 1,2 and 3 are good fernandez of the Marlins is going to be the next Felix Hernandez. He is a hard throwing strikeout and as Felix showed you don't have to be on a winning team to win the Cy Young. Watchout but Fernandez of the Marlins looks like a good NL Cy Young candidate.
2 The AL east just became the NL Central of recent years. For those unaware of the NL Central in recent years out of the 5 teams 4 of them (Cubs always suck) have competed every year and two wild cards came out of their last year. I see this same scenario playing out in the AL East this year. 2 series into the season all teams are within 1.5 game of each other the closest any one division is. I know that its early but look at each team, all of them seem to be mediocre. Tampa is leading the division at 4-3 after a 2-2 start against Division opponent Toronto. 2 of the 3 loses have come against less than average pitchers Hutchinson and Buehrle (Buehrle WAS good. Not anymore) NY Yankees might be the most bi-polar team in baseball right now, losing 2 of 3 to Houston and then winning 2 of three at Toronto. The Yankees are going to be a crap shoot all year as their pitching is already one. Toronto, played both the previous two teams mentioned and sit at 3-4, this is a team that I would compare to last years if their couple older veteran starters can win some games and their young guns pick up some slack, they have a WHOLE team offensive style team that will score some runs and you may just see them competing for a playoff spot come Feb. Baltimore is at 2-4 and is in the same boat as Toronto, however I think that the addition to Jimenez in the off season was still 2 pitchers shy of having a chance to compete for a playoff spot. oh Boston. You win the World Series and then you get swept at home by the Milwaukee lol. This team will be favored a lot of games this year and until they put together a run of lets say 10-5 over 15 games....I would stay away from them in every aspect!
the DODGERS. Puig is an idiot and is like the Kim Kardashian of the MLB. He is the Lindsey Lohan of the Los Angeles and he is the Amanda Bynes of the Dodgers. he is one hell of a player and they have one hell of a lineup. I bet huge on the Dodgers last night because without Puig in the line up this is what it looked like.
Dee Gordon
Carl Crawford (4 TIME ALL-STAR)
Hanley Ramirez (3 TIME ALL-STAR)
Adrian Gonzalez (4 TIME ALL-STAR)
Andre Eithier (2 TIME ALL-STAR)
Matt Kemp (2 TIME ALL-STAR)
Juan Uribe
Drew Butera
Zach Grienke (ALL-STAR)...I know he is a pitcher but also has a lifetime .226 BA one of the highest for a pitcher and he doubled last night.
This lineup without Puig is ridiculous just imagine what it is when he is in the lineup. I am going to use the Dodgers everyday in a 2 team parlay with someone else because I think they can win 100 games which means 61% of the time I will hit the first leg of the parlay.
4. Detroit, just as good of an offense. Who would have thought that Tori Hunter who is in his 18th MLB season would have hit 3 home runs in 3 consecutive days to lead the Tigers to a 4-1 record in the first week of the season. They look very good, except the bullpen is something that needs to be fixed quickly. The Tigers entered in to the 9th inning last week with a 7-1 lead and barely escaped with a 7-6 victory. Their rotation look better than anyone's out there, if they get the bullpen locked down they could easily win over 100 games I might even say 105.
5. Of course I am going to touch on my Cleveland Indians although after 30 years of heartbreak I should drop the "my". We have a the same situation in Cleveland this year as we did last year. We have 1 great pitcher in Masterson and 3 mediocre to bad pitchers in Kluber, McAllister, Salazar and 1 horrible pitcher in Carrasco. This is why I am staying positive right now. We are in the top 5 in On Base Percentage and are averaging around 4.3 runs per game with us giving up around 4.4 runs per game. This tells short assessment shows me that we are in ball games. Last year we were 10-1 in extra inning games and something like 30-11 in 1 run games. This year we have yet to play either of those, but something tells me those will be our key to success or yet again our key to failure. Oh yea but the pitching needs to improve too!
Go Tribe.

I'm surprised the Giants have put up the amount of runs they have so far, hopefully it continues. Hopefully we continue our trend of winning every other World Series and take it this year!! I'll be at the game on Friday, the 11th, it's "fireworks night" and we play the Colorado Rockies. Always exciting to head to the park to catch a game, especially at AT&T park! It is such an awesome stadium, and that's not just because I'm a Giants fan. And even more fun to see a division game, where the wins and losses are that much more meaningful. I'll take a few pics and upload them, for everyone to see. Oh yeah, and GO GIANTS!!
