Why play Seven–Card Stud High-Low?

I think PLO is easier to beat shortstacking, than PLO8 is. I was trying to think why, and it may be because with A2xx you don't have all that much equity before the flop, so you want to see the flop cheap with A2xx, which is kind of counter to normal shortstacking strategy.

I don't play cash games, and I don't like all-in before the flop. There's usually little reason to do this in O-8. I always think I have good equity with any two low cards with any two connected high cards, double-suited - 2 4 Spades with 10 J Clubs, say. As a matter of interest, how does 7 8 9 10 compare with A A 2 X?

A good player gets more advantage in tournaments and sit & gos, I play in ring games mainly because if I go on tilt, I can quit before I start playing wildly

One other funny thing I found out today, is that A23x isn't that great either, heads up all in against a random hand before the flop. A lot of people play that hand like it is the nuts (sometimes I did that also

That's no surprise to me. I'd prefer not to be all-in with A23X. I'd prefer something with more high hand possibilities - any pair with any two to the wheel, or practically anything double suited would be better.

Yes, it seems you need some high hand possibilities to be a favorite all-in before the flop. That kind of surprised me at first, because the books all talked about A2xx as being such a great hand. A lot of players raise before the flop with A2xx. I suspect that kills some of their EV because A2xx wants a multiway pot in case it flops good.

Yes, that's something I've learned the hard way. Though I'm not averse to sometimes making a min raise from the SB if it's already multi-way. Then the same again on every round if I can get away with it.
