Revolution Rebuy Tournaments Winning Strategy
The Revolution poker network, which includes WinCake, Juicy Stakes and Colt Poker, hosts a great selection of rebuy tournaments which offer relatively easy pickings for the serious player.
As with any game some kind of strategy is helpful, and so here's a few thoughts designed to help you formulate an approach to these sometimes very lucrative games.
I favour the $2 - 10 Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo, of which there are plenty of games available, but there's lots of Hold 'Em too. These Revolution rebuy tourneys can be approached in one of two ways: early or late registration. I recommend last minute registration for the following reasons:
1. It can save you money. You will not be able to spend more than 3X buy-in, including the instant rebuy and add-on. If you regged at the start you could end up spending a lot more, maybe rebuying three or four times if you lack discipline. Late entry avoids the temptation.
2. You will have a good starting stack. The Revolution games usually give a generous add-on - typically a $5 rebuy tourney with 3000 starting chips will give 10,000 chips for an add-on. That's a lot of chips proportionate to all but the few very big stacks if you start with 16,000 chips. Even with the large blinds that's more than enough ammo.
3. There will be fewer opponents still standing. Dead money and fewer players to beat is good. From 50 starters there may be 40 left by the end of the rebuy period - and starting out against 20% less players is a pretty favourable mathematical advantage.
4. You will be playing against mainly 'predictable' opponents, as opposed to the loose cannons trying to 'buy' the tourney you would have encountered earlier on. This means you can play 'proper' poker without usually running into nut cases who will raise every pot and/or donk you out on the river. Better the devil you know, so to speak.
5. You save time. An hour, to be exact. A two or three hour game is better than a four or five hour game if the rewards are the same. Another mathematical advantage, all other things being equal.
The general level of play on the Revolution network isn't outstandingly high, and the Guaranteed prize money on offer often exceeds the money put in by the players. Combine this with a reasonable amount of competent poker playing and late entry and you will find that you get a 'fair' game of poker against fewish opponents and with a decent prize structure.
For those used to playing only freezeout tournaments and wanting to try something different, or for those yet to play there, you can't go far wrong by joining one of the Revolution rebuy tournaments - good luck!

Don't do this in the wild west games, they no longer give u the 10k for the addon, its just like a rebuy. I wasted several dollars before I figured this out lol. edit: A lot of people must have complained, now the addon is but its $2.50 in a fifty cent eh
