    Back in the Hospital again

Had to have ambulance take my wife back to the hospital again last night. Oxygen dropped to 78%.. which is very low. Dr. office called and said to get her into Emergency.. so here we are. She has pneumonia and severe anemia. Gave her 3 units of blood and 3 types of antibiotics IV. Severe cough and had been very tired, but seems to be spunking up a bit this afternoon. Just waiting around for a white coat to give some tidbit of information to indicate when she may be able to get outta here. Not wanting to have her in here for Christmas! Oh.. actually got to be able to get online and on the forum without being blocked for being a gambling site. Very strange that I was able to get on here now.

The anemia is what took her oxygen levels to be very low. Apparently anemia depletes the blood of oxygen.. thus the low reading even though she wasn't having much trouble breathing. The pneumonia was contracted while at the nursing home in rehab. I knew she wasn't sounding good the last couple of weeks in there, but they tend to kick you outta there when your therapy meets certain loose requirements. Still puzzled a bit about the anemia... she was eating well since Saturday at home, but eating habits aren't the only thing that determines anemia.. haven't been told just what they think is causing it... and needing 3 units of blood seemed like a lot given her condition. Seems like something must be wrong somewhere, but they haven't indicated anything to us as yet. Well.. just kinda waiting around for a white coat to tell us something.. so signing off for a while for now.

Sorry to hear that. Glad she's spunking up. Hopefully they can determine the root of the problem, get it treated, and have her home by X-mas. Prayers to you and yours.

Sorry to hear of your wife's condition.... hoping she will be home and feeling well again for trying times during the holiday season... take care of yourself as is often as hard on the loved ones as the ones who are sick....

Doing some Lasex I.V. today and tonight.. hopefully will get more excess fluid off of her and hopefully going home tomorrow! Crossing fingers, eyes, legs and praying for her to be able to get home for Christmas. She seems pretty fragile atm.. but did a few transfers today to show she can make some transfers with me. Hoping they don't change their minds. She has been eating a bit better, but the anemia is still her worst enemy right now. They still haven't figured out why she is so anemic. Probably some testing down the road a bit. Cross that bridge when we encounter it. She will be on oxygen 24/7 when she gets home. I think this will help her get better quicker. They were trying to see if she could get by with oxygen only at night before, but it didn't work. Anemia robbing her blood of oxygen, so better to keep the levels up in the 90's while she struggles to gain strength and stamina. Don't like to see her get dependent on the oxygen, but it's best for now.

Well.... after I had Cindy home for the holidays... she is back in the hospital today. Ambulance took her in this morning early. Lot's of difficulty breathing and oxygen was only 82 to 85 % while on 3 liters of oxygen. Pneumonia is still there.. never really got over it since way back it seems. Getting to be a revolving door. She was doing pretty well at home till Thursday really... oxygen slowly was dropping and breathing difficulties began that night... so here we go again. She rested well today and after a brief wake up tonight.. she is sleeping again after downing an Ensure. Hoping they can knock this thing out for good this time. Seems insurance always wants to kick you out before your really well... been that way for a long time ... our health care system needs a complete change.. this Affordable Health Care Act doesn't go far enough to reel in the insurance companies and change the way Dr.s get paid. Need to only reward Dr.s for getting patients well instead of giving kick backs for prescriptions and getting test etc done. Insurance companies shouldn't be able to decide when you get dismissed.. that should be between Dr. and patients. Conflict of interest to the degree that it happens in the health care industry(and has for many many years) is considered a crime or at least unethical in other situations... we need a much bigger change that what is being proposed these days.

The frustrations mount up very fast when you realize just what is going on in the health care industry over the last couple of decades or so. When you experience first hand what our health care industry is really like.. you realize just how stupid some of the status quo is and has been for so long.. you can easily see just how broken our health care is and has been for decades. It seems our health care industry owns us. Many who seldom or never have to use health care services don't really know just how screwed up it is and has been for so long. 1/6 of the most powerful country in the world's gross domestic product is spent on health care.. and the whole world laughs at us because of it.
