Step by Step: How to do a Screen Shot

I saw someone in a post ask about how to do a screenshot... so I'm putting up a post that should cover it. Any questions.. you can post em here, or send me a PM.

    1. With the tourney lobby(or whatever it is you want to get a screenie of) on your desktop... hit the Prt Scr key on your keyboard(might have SysRq under Prt Scr).

    2. Open up the program "Paint". (it is a Microsoft program. This is located in your All Programs/Accessories folder in case your not familiar with it)

    3. Click Edit, paste. (A total screen shot of your desktop at the time you hit the Prt Scr key will show up in the Paint window... if it isn't already done.. expand this window to full view)

    4. In the top left of Paint... there is 2 rows of tools there. Left click on the one at the top right column.(it looks like a little square) Then place your cursor over the top left of the tourney lobby(or what you want a screenie of) and do a left click and drag to frame what you want a shot of.

    5. Do a left click inside of the now framed area

    6. Click Edit, Cut. (This should result in the framed area being just a white blank now)

    7. Click File, New. (When you click File...a drop down menu will appear... "New" is the top selection)

    8. A small dialog box(window) will appear... click "Don't Save" or "No". ("Don't Save" if Vista.. "No" if XP)

    9. Click Edit, paste. (This should result in showing what you framed as your desired cropped screen shot)

    10. Click File, Save. (A window pops up for you to name your screenie and to save it where you can find it later. I usually put mine on the desktop, but make a folder named "Poker Screen Shots" to save them to. I also put sub folders inside "Poker Screen Shots" like.... Feb 2026.. this is only a suggestion to better organize your screenies.. you will likely accumulate quite a few.)

You now have a desired screen shot of your win on your hard drive. Now you can go to a hosting site... I use Photobucket.. but there are some others out there that are also free.... and upload it to there and from there you re name it and get the code for Message Boards. You just copy and paste that code in the beginning(if desired) of your post and it will show up as your screen shot when you finish your post.

Nice tutorial on screen shots Dats.

    Additional Notes:

ALT + PrtScrn to capture only the active window.
Eliminates the the need to crop.

Re: Step by Step: How to do a Screen Shot

I agree with you Roller. Hitting the Alt+PrtScr key together will give you only the active window. This is the way you can do it if all you want is the one window. My instructions are for the whole desktop shot.. so you can crop out what you want. Most poker rooms don't have the whole listing of money won in just the tourney lobby, so my instructions will get you both in one shot. Then you can crop out more than one window per shot. You might want to have a screenie for more than one tourney lobby or other window, in which case one shot will get it done.

If all you want is a screen shot of one window, follow what Roller has suggested. Alt + PrtScr Key then open up Paint and click edit/paste.. will get you only the one window you desire in this case. This will keep you from having to crop, so you could go right into the File/Save step.
