UB’s The Donkament Poker Tournament

The Donkament.  That sounds like the perfect online poker tournament for me.  In fact, this is one of UB’s (formerly Ultimate Bet) new online poker promotions.  The Donkament online tourney is played the third Sunday of every month at 2:30pm EST and has a guaranteed prize pool of $50,000.  So what makes this tournament special you might ask.  Well, what makes this tourney special is the fact that it is a points only buy-in tournament with the entire $50K prize pool being put up by UB themselves.

How To Enter

Entry into a Donkament tourney is done entirely by using your STATUS points that you earn at UB by playing in cash games and tournaments.  In tournaments you earn a point for every $0.30 you pay in fees, while in cash games you earn a point for every number of raked hands you play depending on what stakes you are playing at.

To buy-in directly you need 10,000 STATUS points.  A lot of people won’t have these kind of points hanging around and if you fall into this category don’t worry, there are plenty of satellites running that allow you to gain entrance for fewer points.  There are satellites running every day for as little as 100 points.  Check them out.

Tournament Value

As mentioned before the tournament guaranteed prize pool is $50K.  The prize pool will be $50K no matter how many entrants participate.  That being said, UB caps the entries at 600 players.  $50K divided by 600, equals a value of $83.33 per player.  That’s some solid value for a tournament that’s basically free.

Why Is It Called “The Donkament”?

The reason for this name is that because the tournament is points based instead of cash based you will find all kinds of players.  Some players who normally play in the larger tourneys with $100 buy-ins will be right beside those players who like to play the $1 entry tourneys.  This can provide a very interesting dynamic and players will have to possibly adjust their strategies accordingly.  Whenever you get a lot of top online poker players who play the high value tables together with the freerollers it’s a fun tournament.

Full Tilt Poker Brings Back the $25K Heads Up Championship
